New 2 Teaching

ATL's website dedicated to supporting students and NQs in those first few years

Join us!

As a union member you will have a much stronger voice when negotiating improvements to your pay and working conditions, as well as protection should anything go wrong in your working life. And as a member of ATL, the education union, you will be part of a modern, member-led union - one of the fastest growing, with over 160,000 members throughout the UK.

Reasons to join

  • Competitive rates: with 50% off your first year for teachers and lecturers; free membership for students; and for NQs, free membership for your first year of teaching and your second year half price.

  • Professional development: we offer unrivalled CPD opportunities up to Masters level, either free or at heavily discounted rates.

  • Advice and support: all the legal support you'd expect from your union, including a strong network of reps and regional officials, plus access to hundreds of help and advice topics on our website.

  • Insurance and personal injury protection.

  • Publications and magazines: free publications to help you in the classroom, as well as our award-winning member magazine, Report, and dedicated resources for students and NQs.

  • Member-led organisation: members' views drive our policies and campaigns through groups such as our student and NQ forum and other sector groups; there are plenty of opportunities for members to get involved.

  • Opportunity to influence education policy: through ATL you can make a positive impact on pay and conditions, and help drive the education debate.

  • Representation across education: we have members across the UK in the maintained, independent and FE sectors, from teachers (including supply teachers) and lecturers to headteachers/leaders and support staff.
