ATL and the union movement
ATL members recognise that acting collectively means we can sometimes achieve more than if we act on our own. While retaining the freedom of independence, ATL does operate in partnership with other parts of the trade union movement
Trades Union Congress
ATL is affiliated to the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Britain and the Irish Confederation of Trade Unions (ICTU) in Northern Ireland. These organisations bring together the combined resources of all the affiliated unions, and provide coordination and additional expertise that can improve the overall influence the trade union movement has on issues that are important to our members.
Mary Bousted, the general secretary of ATL, is a member of the executive committee and general council of the TUC, placing ATL's influence and promoting ATL's policies at the very heart of the British trade union movement.
Unions 21 exists to provide an 'open space' for discussion on the future of the union movement and bring together trade unions and others that want to see an effective, modern and relevant trade union movement in the 21st century. ATL is a member of the Unions 21 steering committee and council.
