Teacher scholarships to America 2009-2010
Every year, ATL offers two of its members a unique opportunity to exchange ideas with American educators during a tour of educational institutions in the United States.
The trips are provided under the Walter Hines Page scholarship programme, which is overseen by the English Speaking Union. ATL sponsors two scholarships in the programme, worth £1,100 each.
Scholars, who also receive generous hospitality on the trip, follow an itinerary specially prepared to suit their professional interests. They can look forward to an exhilarating experience, new friendships, new ideas, and also support in promoting their findings locally and nationally on their return.
Applications
The closing date for applications for study tours in 2009-2010 is at the end of November 2008. Candidates must submit a covering letter detailing their proposed area of study, together with a recent professional testimonial.
The interests of recent scholars have included teacher-training, educating children with severe learning difficulties, educational broadcasting and the financial management of kindergartens.
All scholarships must be taken up during the American academic year, October 2009 to May 2010, whilst the American educational institutions are in session.
Page Scholars must submit a typewritten report within one month of their return to this country. If requested, Page Scholars are also expected to give talks in the USA and on their return, so that the influence of the scholarship shall be as far reaching as possible.
