Jersey dispute - advice for members
An improved offer of terms and conditions from the State Employment Board is detailed in a letter sent out in July 2010.
ATL Jersey is in formal dispute with teachers' employers on the island over their refusal to follow the proper negotiation process with reference to the salary claim for 2009-10.
After consultation with its members, ATLÂ Jersey has not ballotted on industrial action. ATL Jersey is not taking industrial action, short of or including strike action, in the current dispute.
Members have already been strongly advised not to do any work normally undertaken by members of NASUWT or NUT while these unions are engaged in industrial action. This includes lunch hour supervision.
ATL has received reports from members that they have been asked by their headteachers to say which union they are members of. ATL's advice is quite clear: that information should not be given. Since ATL is not taking industrial action there is no requirement for ATL or its individual members in Jersey to provide any information to headteachers about their individual union membership.
Further advice can be obtained from Jamie Craik, Jersey ATL branch secretary, using the contact form on the right-hand-side of this page.
