Welcome to the East Sussex/Brighton & Hove branch of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL), the Education Union.

You already know how important it is to belong to a union though many members just leave it there.

ATL is your union and you can influence its direction and effect on education by becoming involved in some way.

We have branch events at least once a term at which you can meet members from other schools in your local authority and also pick up useful skills and information.
In recent years we have had events covering classroom observation, voice care, bullying and stress in the workplace, pensions, and working in independent schools.
These events are free to ATL members, refreshments are provided and your travel is reimbursed. Can't say fairer than that!

The branch is managed by a branch committee who are elected by the membership each spring at our AGM. We are always keen to welcome new members. At present, our committee has about 12 members and we meet every two months.

If you like the idea of getting involved but find the thought of joining the committee a bit daunting, just come along to the branch meetings each term and you might decide to offer some ad hoc help when it feels right. You are supporting your union by simply turning up!
