Events in Trafford this year

We are putting on several training events this year, whose purpose is to help you with your professional developement. We have tried to find topics which you would find useful at different stages of your career. (So we welcome feedback if they aren`t).

Dates and titles......
(See below for details of place and time).

Thursday, 3rd November:

Pensions update (brief, we hope) and  cyber-bullying.

Thursday, 8th December:

Creativity in the classroom.
(This one is preceded by a Branch Meeting---to keep you informed about things going on in Trafford from the ATL`s point of view).

Thursday, 19th January 2012:

Pensions.
This is to help you understand how the most recent changes in pension rules will affect you and to offer advice on how to deal with them. We expect this to be ongoing. It`s a joint meeting with the NUT.

Thursday, 9th February 2012:

Managing Behaviour in the Classroom.

We had a talk from Lisa Miller last year which seemed to be very helpful to many. We are hoping to invite her back for a bit longer this time. Preceded by a Branch Meeting.

Thursday, 22nd March 2012:

Climbing the Ladder.
This is to provide advice on dealing with job changes,- either from promotion or redundancy--- from a practical point of view(eg writing a CV or being interviewed).

Wednesday 9th May 2012:

AGM

We are holding all of these in St. Matthew`s Church Hall in Stretford, in the hope that this venue proves more accessible than Sale West. It is generally booked from 4pm to 7pm with the intention of starting at about 4:30pm.
Light refreshments are provided.

Academies Request:

Please could you let us know if your school is thinking of becoming an academy but hasn`t applied yet and/or if there has been any mention of redundancies or restructuring.

(This is quite urgent since, nationally, some schools have been making staff redundant before going academy in the hope that the LA will pay for it since it would generally be the responsibility of the LA. LAs can`t afford this now so redundant staff are getting no more than the statutory minimum rather than the year`s salary which they would have got in the past.
Not surprisingly there are also ongoing legal arguments so redundant staff could well get nothing while LAs and schools argue over who should pay).
