Esther Rantzen to hose Welsh education conference

ChildLine founder Esther Rantzen is set to host an education conference in Wales next month.

Teachers and practitioners are being urged to sign up for the event which takes place on September 17th.

Ms Rantzen will talk about her own experience establishing ChildLine, with other key speakers set to include Radio 1's Aled Haydn Jones and Claude Knights, Director of children's charity Kidscape.

Deputy Minister for Education Hew Lewis AM said it is important that teachers are able to provide support to pupils in difficult emotional situations.

"The high profile speakers who will address the conference will bring invaluable experience of working with young people who have suffered emotional difficulties," he commented.

Everyone attending the conference will have the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences, Mr Lewis added.

The Welsh Department of Education and Skills revealed last week that that over 4,000 children have benefited from school-based counselling in recent years.
