Film aims to tackle homophobic bullying in Scottish schools

A new film has been distributed to every school in Scotland, with the aim of tackling the problem of homophobic bullying among pupils.

FIT is being sent to education institutions by gay rights campaign group Stonewall Scotland, and tells the story of six school-age individuals attempting to deal with sexuality issues while also dealing with the pressures of school life.

Carl Watt, director of Stonewall Scotland, told the Herald: "Two-thirds of lesbian, gay and bisexual people are bullied at school.

"Those young people are more likely to skip classes and drop out of education and then there’s the impact it has on their own self-esteem and confidence."

The film also has the backing of Teaching and Learning Scotland, and has been described as a more realistic take on popular school-set television shows such as Glee and Skins, the newspaper reports.

Stonewall Scotland works towards achieving equality and justice for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people by lobbying government for policy changes.
