And find out why ATL is the fastest growing union in the education sector

Approximately two-thirds of S2 pupils in Scotland have yet to master the expected writing skills of pupils of their age category, a new study has revealed.
However, the Executive-published Scottish Survey of Achievement (SSA) found that S2 pupils fare somewhat better with reading, with roughly 40 percent rated as above average or as meeting the standard expected of 13-year-old pupils.
Responding to the survey, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning Michael Russell MSP said: "There are [
] some things that are average and unfortunately some things that are below average.
"We must recognise where there are failures in the system and address those failings."
He added that the new Curriculum for Excellence will help address some of the educational discrepancies identified within the report by placing a strong emphasis on the development of basic skills.
The SSA assesses how well children are performing in primary school and the first two years of secondary school in Scotland.
