A review of the Welsh higher education sector is set to be announced by the country's National Assembly government, it has been reported.
Minister for Children, Education and Lifelong Learning Leighton Andrews AM is expected to order a review into the running of the country's universities, designed to assess whether the sector is delivering value for money in its provision of HE services.
Mr Andrews said: "Higher education in Wales receives over £400 million a year in public money and I want to ensure that there is proper and transparent accountability for how that money is spent."
He added that the Welsh Assembly also wants to see more engagement with businesses by the country's universities, in order to ensure the HE sector is meeting the needs of future industry.
Mr Andrews was first elected as the Labour Assembly Member for Rhondda in 2003, and retained the seat in the 2007 election.
