And find out why ATL is the fastest growing union in the education sector

An Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) is a teacher in a maintained school in England or Wales who has passed a national assessment and been appointed to an AST post.
ASTs concentrate on sharing their skills, through outreach work, with teachers in their own and other schools.
To become an AST, you will need to be assessed against the professional standards for ASTs (details of the application process on the Department for Education website).
As an AST you will be placed on the AST pay scale - for up-to-date figures, see the maintained sector pay scales. Your school will determine a five-point range on the AST pay scale on which to pay you.
You should progress within the range annually based on your performance.
Your first point of contact is your ATL rep in your school or college. Your local ATL branch is also available to help with queries, or you can contact ATL's member advisors on tel: 020 7930 6441 or email us. Please have your membership number to hand when telephoning and include it with any correspondence - this will help us to answer your query more quickly.
