ATL Conference 2008

17 March to 20 March 2008, Torquay

ATL's Conference 2008 saw keynote speeches from ATL General Secretary Mary Boustead, ATL President Julia Neal, minister of state for schools and learners Jim Knight MP, and director of End Child Poverty Hilary Fisher.

Key issues debated at Conference were stress suffered by teachers and pupils, OfSTED, health and safety and poor buildings.

More about Conference

Annual Conference is the main policy-making body of ATL. Conference discusses and then passes policy resolutions which the Executive Committee then implements. Both ATL and Conference are governed by the Constitution and Rules, which can be changed only by Conference itself.

The 600 members who make up Conference include ATL's Executive Committee, together with representatives elected by the branches. The number of representatives each branch can send to Conference depends on how many members it has.
