While there are many universal issues in education, there are also significant differences between the independent and state maintained sector. Unlike the state sector, there are no national pay and conditions for teachers. There is no standard book of rules for teachers or support staff. Sometimes there isn't even a written contract of employment. Pay and conditions vary enormously from school to school.
This handbook for ATL members working in the independent sector - now in a newly-updated second edition - addresses these issues and difficulties. It is also a useful resource for ATL school reps, branch secretaries and regional officials.
