And find out why ATL is the fastest growing union in the education sector

This year's ATL annual lecture was delivered by the permanent secretary of the Department of Education, Paul Sweeney at the Hilton Hotel, Templepatrick, County Antrim on 3 June 2010.
Mr Sweeney's lecture was entitled 'Education systems - what works globally', and can be downloaded from the right-hand column on this page.
The ATL annual lecture has been a feature of the Northern Ireland educational calendar since 2006. It was conceived and designed as an opportunity for our local educational 'family' to meet, discuss, listen and reflect.
In that, we believe that it has delivered handsomely. Previous lectures have been delivered by:
2006 - Baroness May Blood
2007 - Duchess Sasha Abercorn (founder of the Pushkin Awards), and CaitrÃona Ruane (minister for Education)
2008 - Professor Ken Mayhew (Oxford University and director of the ESRC funded vocational education research centre SKOPE), and minister for Employment & Learning Sir Reg Empey
2009 - Dr Philip O'Connor (Dublin Employment Pact) on Irish Social Partnership
