And find out why ATL is the fastest growing union in the education sector

ATL represents over 13,000 support staff members across the UK in the maintained, independent, further education and sixth form sectors, and this figure is growing all the time.
As a modern trade union, ATL believes in the ethos of the school community and that the contribution of all staff is equally important. Consequently, ATL welcomes into membership all professionals working in the education sector: teachers and teaching assistants, technicians and librarians, office administration and maintenance staff.
ATL commits considerable resources to representing our support staff members.
ATL is the only trade union that can offer you all of the following:
staff solely dedicated to support staff members and issues
a member advisory group, the Support Staff Members Advisory Group, which advises ATL's National Executive
a termly newsletter for our support staff members
dedicated publications such as ATL's Supporting education: the role of higher level teaching assistants
tailored training courses, such as behaviour management for support staff, held centrally and locally.
All the above is in addition to the usual services you would expect such as first-class advice and support. It's worth knowing that, should you wait until a problem arises before considering union membership, union rules will preclude you from receiving immediate assistance, known as the 'pre-existing problem' rule. So to be safe in the knowledge that you have the protection and backing that only ATL can provide, join today.
For details of how to join, see our join us page. If you have any queries about the benefits of ATL membership for support staff members, please contact ATL's national official for support staff, Peter Morris, on tel: 0207 782 1557 or via our email contact form. If you work in the independent sector you can find out more about ATL membership here.
