Insurance protection

All ATL members automatically receive a wide range of benefits including the insurance protection outlined below, which is funded by ATL as part of your membership subscription.

This cover is available to ATL members only and does not extend to their families, and conditions apply.

Personal accident cover

All ATL members are automatically insured for £10,000 against accidental death, permanent total disablement, and loss of limbs, eyesight or digits. With effect from 1 January 2012, a maximum of £5,000 is also payable for funeral expenses after a member's accidental death.

ATL has extended your personal accident benefits to include:

• hospitalisation after accident - £50 per member per day up to a maximum of 365 days - 24 hour excess applies

• additional medical expenses - up to 25 per cent of the benefit payable for death and capital benefit for additional medical expenses necessarily incurred

• coma benefit - £50 per member per day up to 365 days - 24 hour excess applies

• family benefit - 2 per cent of the death benefit for each dependant child following payment of death benefit.

Assault

As a member, you are covered against injury following physical assault by any person that results in you being signed off work for more than seven consecutive days. A benefit of £100 a week is payable to you for up to a maximum of four weeks' incapacity.

Dental treatment

Dental treatment is covered up to a limit of £200 as a result of assault or accident.

Loss or damage to property or cash

Personal belongings, including teaching equipment, books, personal effects and jewellery, are insured while on school or college premises up to a maximum of £250. Members are also covered against loss or damage to pupils' property, whether held in trust or confiscated. Cash is insured up to a maximum of £150. All claims are subject to a £25 excess.

Malicious damage to cars and bikes

Automatic insurance cover for up to £400 is available against malicious damage to your car, motorcycle or bike, while parked in a school or college in the UK. All claims are subject to a £25 excess.
