Insurance protection

ATL members* automatically receive a wide range of benefits including, at no extra cost, insurance protection and cover that includes the following.

Personal accident cover

All members are automatically insured for £5,000 against death, permanent total disablement, and loss of limbs, eyesight or digits.

Loss or damage to property or cash

Personal belongings, including teaching equipment, books, personal effects and jewellery, are insured while on school or college premises up to a maximum of £250. Members are also covered against loss or damage to property, whether held in trust or confiscated. Cash is insured up to a maximum of £100.

Malicious damage to cars and bikes

Automatic insurance cover for up to £250 is available against malicious damage to your car, motorcycle or bikes, while parked in a school or college in the UK.**

Assault

As a member, you are covered against injury following physical assault by any person within your school or college, with a benefit of £100 a week paid to you for up to a maximum of four weeks' incapacity.

Dental treatment

NHS dental treatment is covered up to a limit of £200 as a result of assault or accident occurring during teaching activities.

Motor, home and travel insurance

ATL has negotiated discounts on a range of other insurance for our members. Special rates on motor, home and travel insurance are provided by our partner Norwich Union. For more details, see our section on specially negotiated discounts and offers.

Insurance for private work

Should you undertake any private work outside of your LA's or employer's direct control, you will not be covered by your employer's insurance. ATL has negotiated a discounted rate of £50 on a combined public liability and professional indemnity policy for members undertaking private tuition, lecturing or coaching outside the main place of employment.
