The Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) provides financial support to help young people in low-income households stay on in education after 16.

ATL understands that applications for the EMA after 1 January 2011 will not be accepted but that applications before the end of the year will be accepted, even though the course may not begin until after 1 January 2011.

EMA is now closed in England. If you're studying in England, you may be able to get a 16-19 bursary fund of up to £1,200 a year to help with your studying costs.
